I know (remember) what it's like on the brink of jumping into the Linux pool, so I understand you wanting to dual boot as you test the water. In my experience, not many people choose to keep on dual booting for long because it's awkward, and a bit jolting to do so - sharing work between the partitions can be a challenge, switching track from the new tricks you've learnt to do things in a Linux environment, back to the Windows way can be frustrating, etc. But it IS a good way to get a feel for how things work in Linux land.

What usually happens is at some point you just end up deciding "sod it, I've had enough of this" and jump one way or the other - back to the comparative familiarity of Windows, or into the newfound vistas of Linux.

One thing to remember is that (still) vanishingly few software vendors do a Linux version of their software, but there are USUALLY alternatives for most things you might want to do, and THEY ARE often available for Windows too! But even if you can't live without a particular piece of software, you might be able to run it under WINE, or in a virtual Windows machine. Always worth asking round for hints or answers when you have questions you can't find ready answers for.
