I believe the reason it was removed was because people were filling blocks with useless data. This is because in the early days BTC was cheap. BSV essentially has the same issue they dropped the sat/byte so low that people can fill blocks with useless gigabytes of data. If data is to be stored on chain the cost needs to be carefully managed so that the infrastructure and community grows with it. Storing data on chain should be expensive.
