My inner pedant has often been annoyed by how the Japanese word "katsu" has shifted in British English use from referring to a style of preparing meat to the sauce it's sometimes accompanied with. What I didn't know until I read this is that "katsu" is actually the Japanese version of the French "côtelette", aka the English "cutlet".
