I can't tell you how immensely helpful it has been living a life where I don't expect my computer to start up the next day (I shut everything down at night).

It makes me sure that everything that needs to be backed up is. It also makes bootstrapping a new machine way easier and not a stressful ordeal (I also write down key steps at https://github.com/brettcannon/dotfiles#bootstrapping-a-new-machine so I don't get annoyed by forgetting something).
