I have been doing some research into my family in a part of rural Missouri. One of the primary sources is a "History of Adair, Sullivan, Putnam and Schuyler counties, Missouri" published in 1888 and available as a scanned document from Cornell University. It's 1,225 pages long! https://archive.org/details/cu31924028846231
I uploaded it to Google's NotebookLM (https://notebooklm.google/) and the AI was then able to answer questions for me and even write short-fiction based on historical details in the book! It was a fun way to interact with the text because I don't have time or patience to read through it and make notes myself. I had been using Ctrl-F to search for words, but having the AI answer questions for me is much more powerful and efficient. And yes, the AI also provides link to the original text so that I can verify how it came to certain conclusions.
