I've just been experimenting with an idea for long distance VR walking. In the video I walk 26m (physically walk, not slide or teleport) along a game map even though I only have about 5m of real life space. By holding a button I take over head orientation and can turn 180 degrees in real life without changing direction in the game. So walking back and forth over the same small area makes me move any distance and direction in the VR world.
