They aren't post monarchy. Most "PM's" are treated with god like reverence, Japan still has an unofficial (sort of) Emperor/Dictator for life running the country, and China has an official Dictator for life running it. I wouldn't be surprised if the same story holds true for every "high" Asian nationality filled country on Earth.
