The reason I use the framework of an *enclosure of a digital commons* to understand Twitter, Facebook, etc. Is because I want to emphasise that these companies are sitting on our stuff. They are controlling part of the finite world we all share, and locking us out.

That's also why these enclosures need to be dismantled, rather than simply superseded by better alternatives. They are enclosing limited material stuff - human attention and sociability.
