It's been a few years since I worked with them directly, but I can testify first hand that GitLab has an extremely transparent culture. If you want proof, check out their public issue trackers! Most of the info is public, even details about their infrastructure.
I know many people are concerned about joining a company that might have leadership that would rather sweep security issues under the rug than invest in dealing with them. Not at GitLab. #legit
