100 pages into Architects of Memory, and I’m really hoping it gets better.
Stuff is happening. There’s lots of action. But so far, there’s two things lacking:
1. A hook - What makes this different from other space operas? What’s the central conceit of this universe? Why should we invest time into this book?
2. Compelling characters - Who is the crew? What makes the tick? Why do the relationships matter?
I respect what Karen Osborne is doing. I love a good yarn about badass babes in space. Who doesn’t?
But so far, things seem quite generic. This book is like The Expanse—but milder.
