also, i base this on having actually drank 99.something% absolute lab grade ethanol - the pure ethanol itself is ... relatively neutral and has little odor or taste, everything is about that 1% difference, i'm sure you know about fusil oils and other things like this that affect it, anyhow, just had to say that because the majority of difference between spirits really is tiny
