Looks like there’s meaning behind the katakana used as serial numbers seen at the side of JR trains.
ク – has a driving cab
モ – has motor attached
ネ – sleeping car (ie. Sunrise Seto/Izumo)
イ – first class (idk, trains like Train Suite Shikishima?)
ロ – second class (green car)
ハ – third class (regular car)
The last three makes sense if you think of kana arranged in the Iroha order.
Two katakana are commonly used, but using 4 is also possible.
