In many areas, the death rate from smallpox and other diseases is believed to be 95 to 99%. When European settlement started, there was already barely anyone alive to oppose it.
Now Africa or Southeast Asia, those would be more plausible scenarios. Those only happened because of European industrial power. Which only happened 200 years later.
