As Europe lurches to the right in many countries, Britain has found out that right-wing populism has no answers to key questions of our time: social cohesion, sound environment, good living. Brexit was and is a disaster. And how hard it is to later correct the consequences of such misguided ideologies. As if going it alone rather than being a vital force in Europe was ever going to be a good plan.
