It's an interesting design! All things considered, though, I think any comparisons between BlueSky and Mastodon/Fedi should wait until they have more than a single instance. 99% of the perceived complexity here is due to the distributed nature of the network, and the many "BlueSky is like Mastodon minus the complexity" I'm seeing at the moment to me mostly read like "there's only one instance, hooray!"
