It is not uncommon for planes to hit unidentified patches of turbulence. It’s something that has happened since the start of flight. Every so often someone literally breaks a neck. It was maybe a decade ago seeing a story about a flight attendant being paralyzed from turbulence that I switched to leaving my belt on at all times except when needing to use the washroom.
