I feel like the people that call OpenBSD too cryptic and/or complicated are mostly techy people that are just unfamiliar with it.
(Because they know enough linux to assume that that's how it should be.)

The actual noobs (bless them) would probably have less trouble with OpenBSD than linux because they don't have familiarity biases.
