On the second thing, this is easy to observe if you ever watch people at some percentile cross into another, smaller, field, e.g., look at a 99%-ile basketball or football player who picked up ultimate frisbee 20 years ago (20 years ago because ulti now has a lot more systems that produce players coached from a young age and fewer self-taught). The ulti players would be self-taught and the former bball/fb players would've had coaching IN THE WRONG SPORT and would totally dominate ulti players.
