In the article you posted, Bindel says she realized she was a lesbian at 15, so while going through puberty. That's when most of us figure out our sexual orientation because that's when we become sexually mature and experience sexual attraction. That would make her just a boring old regular lesbian. That she chose to act on it and not repress it may have felt like a political choice to her, but that's not quite the same thing as choosing your orientation.
