I gave up fighting this years ago (you can guess which side won). Windows updates will sometimes "accidentally" stop your Linux partition from booting, so always keep rescue media to hand, and learn how to use it to restore functionality - and how to research how to fix whatever "new" tricks MS throw at you, often under the guise of security. Fortunately I think it's much rarer these days, since MS's new found "love of Linux", and USUALLY it's just a case of reinstalling your boot loader (probably GRUB) but can be more "interesting" sometimes.
Good luck with your journey.
