It occurs to me that one of the subtler myths perpetrated by all these atomic era movies is that, yeah, sure the bombs make monsters sometimes, but that's just what radiation does, rearranges the dna, causes mutations. It's a managable side-effect. Heck, the sun does it to ya naturally!
When mostly what the radiation from atomic blasts does is just make a mess of everything in the cell, and even at the level of a bad sunburn can cause cancer.
but hey, giant ants! THEM!
