You guys can’t even imagine how much all of your support means for me 💜 let me take you on the journey of the last 4 months which led to the #nostdocumentary 👇🏼

In March 2023 I traveled to Nostrica after being on Nostr for a couple of months. My initial goal was to film as much as I can while learning more about the ethos.

There I had the opportunity to meet amazing people and talk with them about why NOSTR might be solving many of the issues we currently face with centralized social media companies.

Arriving home I had more than 20h of video footage and interviews to screen. The screening and categorising alone took me approx. 2 weeks. After that I started crafting the storyline.

The video is tailored for a mainstream audience that is probably hearing about this new protocol for the first time. Within our space, there are a lot of things we understand, like (private/public keys), but I want the average Joe also to understand this.

Therefore I made a couple of decisions while editing and choosing how to present NOSTR. I believe that to fully understand the significance of this technology, one first needs to understand what's wrong with social media. Although documentaries like the social dilemma or the current trend of dopamine detoxes showcase that the public knows this, there needed to be a video focusing on the technical aspects.

NOSTR is a technical innovation; therefore, I chose to start at the very beginning and slowly take the viewer's hands for them to understand how we got to the point where we are.

Initially, this part was way longer until last week. 3 days before publishing the documentary i restructured a bunch of the video after some friends watching it told me that it got too complicated.

Some people might wonder why I chose only to introduce nostr at the 15-minute mark. With this storytelling, my main focus is on people understanding nostr. When you're still watching after 15 minutes, you most likely understand the problem and are keen to see the solution. All of those people have a real interest in understanding nostr. The people who clicked away would've not cared about nostr in the first place.

Then we arrive at the nostr part. During Nostrica, I interviewed many prominent nostr people and had tons of footage. This was probably the most time-intensive part of all of the work. Trying to figure out a storyline that people can relate to. I decided not to focus on all the amazing things happening within nostr (zaps, clients, NIPs, etc.) but make the first impression powerful for newbies.

Having said that, I plan to go to Japan this year to work on a second, more in-depth video about nostr. I need to figure out how to raise funds for that, but the footage will likely still be used. It just didn't fit into this first video.

That's all from my side. I hope all of you enjoy the video and keep sharing it with your friends and families.

As many know, I do this independently and on a donation basis. So I am only able to keep doing that with the support of you. If you find the video valuable, feel free to give value back.

Love - Max
