Blockchain tech turned out to be an interesting idea, but even if you cleaned up all the massive ethical problems, the practical application of it chewed so many resources it's wildly impractical.
I am starting to suspect that AI is going the same way. And I'm actually OK with that. Worth noting the same would have been true of flying cars. Some things just don't scale up well.
