I often see the phrase "commodification" as a negative. It sounds cold, sterile, alienating. But here's a hot take: commodification is good, actually. If we fully reversed commodification, and each bespoke hand-crafted kernel of corn were lovingly sold to you by an individual named person at a farmer's market with whom you had a deep personal relationship, you would not be able to buy it without needing to first agree to an earful of reactionary nonsense.
