I think a lot of people have a hard time understanding that not everyone has parents that are benevolent. Not all parents love their children. Some children are hated, despised, mocked, looked down upon, made to feel like a burden, belittled, beaten, manipulated, harmed. You can’t just assume parents want their children to be happy. Some don’t give a shit and they want children to be invisible at best. Sometimes the law needs to protect children from their parents.
