The first flower on the native bee balm (Monarda fistulosa) under the apple tree in my front yard. Not as ornate and colorful as the flowers on the hybrid M. didyma common at nurseries, but still a beauty. This plant is a big favorite of the local bumblebees.
When used medicinally, this plant is known as wild bergamot.
