I think one of the greatest boons of 3d printing is the ability to take "maker" electronics concepts and render them into a reasonable and finished product.
A farewell to the days of the "jiffy box" and trying to design everything around the enclosures that were available and hand-filing holes in plastic fascia because one didn't have a 16mm drill for the panel connectors.
This really makes me think of the number of projects I knocked together over a decade ago that never came to fruition because building an appropriate case was just too much of a PITA or too expensive for the job at hand.
