The other day, on one of my visits to the gym, I saw a woman there with head (and neck) covering, and wearing full-length sweats. So she was completely covered up except for her face and hands.
And I was there, running on the treadmill, thinking that I was already borderline overheating in my loose t-shirt and half-length running tights, and the gym isn't even that warm.
It was abundantly obvious to me that if I were to wear the kind of clothing this woman wore, it would severely curtail the training intensity available to me. And in what I'm betting was not a coincidence, she trained at a decidedly sedate pace.
It wouldn't just hamper me physically, there's also no way I could train as hard as I do if I had to be mindful of no hair slipping out from under a scarf, never accidentally shoving it aside when wiping sweat, or always having to be demure and ladylike.
And sure, not all women want to train hard. And I know there are competitive female athletes who use modesty wear. But I can't imagine that it doesn't limit the potential of any regular woman, who might enjoy training or benefit from it, if she has to continuously wear fully covering clothing, or stay mindful that she won't stray from the modesty standard expected of her.
Never mind whether any given community thinks it's even appropriate for a woman to train, hard or otherwise.
