I've seen some people say it's geolocation data collected during registration. I've seen some people say it's based on phone number so if you have a US phone number you're just automatically banned. I've never signed up for the app so I don't know what it collects on registration.
Supposedly VPNs are not getting around the ban. So it has to be something along the lines of geolocation data. It would be interesting to try and make an account with text verified using a non-US number in your VPN in a different country to see if you can get around it.
IMEI As far as I'm aware is a hardware number similar to a MAC address. So I don't think that has location data in it unless the numbers are given out by location.
