There are very, *very* few unchangeable things in software engineering. Most of the time when people say "unchangeable" they mean "I think (without necessarily being right) that changing this would be more of a pain than it's worth".

Not that I'm attending meetings that boil down to "let's do this complex weird thing to make up for this other lower-level thing which is annoying" when they ought to be "this lower level thing is annoying, let's just make it stop being annoying" or anything.
