Most action RPGs nowadays seem to use checkpoints / bonfires for saving. That would be easier to implement, and creates tension through mechanical fear (the fear of having to redo a whole area).
But I'm not making a Souls clone, I'm much more heavily inspired by Elder Scrolls, and I like how comfy quicksaving is. Embrace the save scumming.
