I've tried using Matrix a few times in the past but it's never been smooth — or even successful! Assumed it was a *me* problem, but hearing your experience suggests not. Matrix is clearly great — I see/hear it promoted a lot, so it can't be all bad — but there appear to be hurdles, and when you want to communicate/collab, those hurdles end up eating into would-be contributor's time.
