Camino Frances | Day 16
Poblacion de Campos to Calzadilla de la Cueza
The Meseta, part of the Camino Frances that many people skip due to long stretches in the heat without much shade. There is more distance between towns, so you don't get as many coffee breaks, and it is much more important to make sure you have pleny of water with you. After reading all of the descriptions of the Meseta I honestly didn't think it sounded that bad. There is definitely value in walking it, especially if you've come this far, but it wasn't my favorite. It was indeed hot, shade was hard to come by, but you could always bring an umbrella, I did not. I think I would have enjoyed it more but I was still dealing with quite a bit of pain from my achilles. Which meant I got to spend more time in the heat because I couldn't walk as fast. I don't remember what town it was now, but I limped in the last 2 km using my hiking sticks as crutches because I wasn't able to put any pressure on my left leg. Fun times.
