I believe property rights are the most basic and necessary rights that a person can have. For if you do not claim a property right in your body, maybe someone will do violence to it. And what protest can you provide, since neither of you own the thing?
As for property rights in goods that are not human bodies, we must recognize that as humans in the world we have no choice but to use things. And the only guarantee that I will not be prevented from using a resource when I need to is if I own it. Therefore ownership of resources must exist.
I can see why you or I would want privacy. But let me issue you a friendly challenge: Can you name an action that someone may take which is permissible only because of that person’s right to privacy?
I think you will find that any action you can name either violates property rights, or is redundant in regard to them.
And before we get confused, yes I mean only physical material resources as property. I recognize that information is not something that can be owned. We can discuss this further if it is a sticking point.
