Years ago, we encountered a man telling everyone, including us, what an expert he was when it came to local birds.
He informed us that these egrets are great white herons. Now, every time I walk there, my husband asks if I encountered any of the elusive great white herons.
The guy was so pompous that you kind of had to be there to appreciate the humor in his not a master class in birding. He did have a camera with a tripod and impressive lens but had not a clue what he was talking about.
