I've been sending funds around using the eNuts wallet and Minibits mint for a while now, and the experience has been perfect: instant payments and never lost any funds.
That said, the problem you point out is valid. It's not complicated to start a mint, and when a mint eventually retires, users will lose funds, so clearly there is risk there.
calle 👁️⚡👁️ (nprofile…xwet) is it possible for a mint that wishes to retire, to handover its operations to a different provider? Perhaps signaling the mint that takes over in a note. If that becomes standard practice it could increase confidence in smaller mints
