One fifth of British troops could not be deployed in war because they are medically unfit to fight. Ministry of Defence figures show that over 10,000 sickly soldiers, sailors and aviators would have to stay behind, says The Times, while a further 15,000 could only be deployed under certain conditions, such as the weather not being “too hot or too cold” and servicemen not being “exposed to noise”.
