If I understand correctly, you're never straight-line connecting dots with corners, but always fitting them to sine waves. So things never collapse to triangles. But without enough dots, at some point you can't tell which frequency sine wave it's supposed to represent anymore. In other words, you get the right frequency, the wrong frequency, or nothing, but in any case always sine waves.
