I wonder sometimes if it comes from a position of privilege, from someone who has never had anything go so wrong that there's no way back from it.

I do wonder how many extremely unhappy people with shit lives have been through abuse. I bet it's a very substantial proportion. And for many abuse survivors (myself included), even if the abuse stops in practice it never actually ends.

And that makes it hard to believe that everything will get better, unless they're offering a time machine.
