MSNBC tried to fire him for making political donations to two Arizona Congressional candidates (Giffords & Grajalva) at the behest of his then GF Krysten Sinema because that's prohibited under the standard NBC News contract. But, in an effort to save money and not have to pay him benefits, MSNBC had offered him a contract with *NBC SPORTS* which has no such prohibition. He got quite a large settlement in court.
