A new linguistics paper here: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abg0818 predicts PIE is way older than previously assumed, and tries to reconcile their model with bad data from the southern arc paper about a CHG origin for PIe resulting in bad data out and a PIE=CHG conclusion. They ignore Sredny Stog which is STILL old enough for their novel posterior dating (i added it to their graph above to demonstrate)
Even the author of the Southern Arc hypothesis, Laziridis here: https://x.com/iosif_lazaridis/status/1684642569626734592?s=20 , himself doubts this new linguistic dating based on the mismatch with genetic evidence and an historical linguist, Guus Kroonen here: https://x.com/KroonenGuus/status/1684649459093766144?s=20 , has pointed out that the dates are too early and are unrealistic.
The new linguistic theory basically pushes southern arc to even more ludicrous extremes and says IVC and BMAC spoke Indo-Iranic languages. This is one of the stupidest takes in IE studies in a long time.
