So recently I made a comment about some music (specifically Country) being overly formulaic. Understand I like country including a lot of modern versions of it along with the song in that older note. However the formula comment isn't just about there being only so many keys to work with and beat combinations.
Nashville went corporate and formula and long ago. Much of what is produced today is well written (lyrics) but so formulaic there is almost no difference in the composition.
This video by Sir-Mash-Alot should make clear what I mean, I defy anyone to do with say 6 songs form say Johnny Cash, Merl Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, George Jones and Glen Campbell. And no cheating with duets some of them did.
