Nextcloud, as it stands right now, and barring a security audit, seems to scratch most itches.
We've wanted a video hosting service that doesn't tamper with the videos. We tried youphptube, but the license is, well it's puritanical. That's fine, but i don't like infrastructure to run on a prayer (pun intended) that the license won't get yanked.
Nextcloud one can upload and then watch or [non-]selectively share videos - really multimedia. It is seamless and feels intuitive enough; compared to e.g. Syncthing.
Passing an audit (forthcoming) and maybe pairing with a synology for high availability would make this an ideal front end for desktop "productivity" work.
And, ostensibly Misskey could be used in the same way for multimedia, but i don't like mixing networks like that. I'd rather have a dedicated URL for, let's say "permanent" file/archive hosting, and then hot-link. Right now, if i want to share something elsewhere i rarely use this server as it exposes an identity (words with timestamps).
I was going to post this from npub1vr0g7xxmdtcg0ewtjh8leqr4f7wd33y60z4z5qyfkt7fqjw4yx4s8mglwg (npub1vr0…glwg), but i had already spent enough time typing, that making it shorter was a non-starter.
