Thank God! The queen lives! My largest carpenter ant colony suddenly had fewer eggs and since they have hidden the queen I was worried she might have died (I tend to catastrophize a little about my pets) But today there is a fresh batch of eggs. Still no sign of the queen. I think she was just taking a break from laying since I reduced their food a bit. (They were growing faster than I could make space for them.)
So, the food reduction has slowed growth, but not harmed them.
