Convicted felon Trump conveniently nominates his defense attorney to DOJ
dailykos.com (nprofile…k7aw)
Donald Trump has nominated Todd Blanche, who defended him in court on multiple criminal charges, to be deputy attorney general of the United States. If Trump’s slate of nominations were to be confirmed en masse, Blanche would answer to Trump’s proposed attorney general, former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who is accused of child sex trafficking. Blanche represented Trump when he was indicted in New York for falsifying business records while trying to hide his relationship with porn star Stormy Daniels. Blanche was unable to convince a jury of Trump’s innocence, and Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts. Aside from Trump’s guilt and what it says about the Republican Party’s selection of him as their leader, Blanche’s failure in the New York court does not bode well for the Department of Justice, which is tasked with pursuing justice across the nation and its territories. Blanche was also hired to represent Trump in the federal cases where Trump has been accused of mishandling classified documents and attempting to subvert the outcome of the 2020 election that he lost. Nominating Blanche makes it clear that Trump seeks to reward those who stood on the front lines of defending his criminality. Trump has always emphasized the importance of personal loyalty over the rule of law, democracy or patriotism. At the department, Blanche—and Gaetz—would be in a prime position to turn a blind eye to Trump inevitably violating the law in his incoming administration. Installing yes-men rather than independent seekers of justice would work as insurance for Trump’s expected misdeeds. Trump was twice impeached for violating his oath of office, once for using his position to pressure foreign leaders to assist his political fortunes, and once for urging his supporters to violently attack the U.S. government. Blanche was a frontline witness to Trump’s crimes in the courtroom. In the Justice Department, he would be able to sweep it all under the table. Campaign Action
