I really like helping people, but I find it so difficult to deal with their attempts to pay back the favour.
No thanks I appreciate the thought but I *really* don't want soup / chocolates / whatever.
I understand why they feel the need, but "thank you" truly is enough. (And only once, not every time I meet you! )
I don't like the idea that helping someone puts them at a social disadvantage unless they pay you back.
My mother taught me that accepting help graciously & without a fuss is another way to be generous, but maybe her approach is not the norm.
