Introduction For New Plebs!
Welcome! If you are reading this, congratulations! You've made it! Your on your way to a new age of decentralized communication! In this guide I will go over some good things to keep in mind and ways to get started.
First off, allow me to introduce myself, I'm Uno, I've been on Nostr for over a year. I have tried nearly every Bitcoin lighting wallet and Nostr client there is to try. I enjoy building things and chatting, as well as making and postings #Memes and #Videos.
Now that we have that out of the way, let's get started!
Let's start by setting up our profile, depending on the client (app) you used to create your account, how you set up your account may vary. For example, if you set up your account in nprofile1qqs24yz8xftq8kkdf7q5yzf4v7tn2ek78v0zp2y427mj3sa7f34ggjcpzamhxue69uhhv6t5daezumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6tcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnddakj703s8dt (nprofile…s8dt) , you might need to do some more setup, if you used an app like Primal, your account might already be set up.
For demonstration purposes, I will be showing you how to setup your profile in Amethyst today, this will be quite similar in other clients as well. To get started, start by:
Tapping your profile at the top right corner:
Tap The Profile button on the menu:
Tap the Edit button:
This should bring us to this page where we can edit our profile to add more info, such as profile name, picture, Nip05s, or lightning address.
Let's start with Display Name at the top, this is the name that will appear on your profile, you can edit this however you want.
Next is the about me, this is pretty self explanditory, this is what others will read about you when visiting your profile, feel free to add whatever you want and include hashtags to be found in the search results.
Next two are avatar and banner pictures, notice the links on the boxes, this is the direct link to your profile or banner picture, you can leave this the same or you can tap the plus picture icon to upload a new one from your phone. The link in the pox should change indicating a new picture.
Next box you can add a personal website if you have one, none of these boxes are mandatory and are completely optional.
Next is your "Nostr Address" also know as Nip05. This is a unique identifier, it is used to verify that you are you to others, and makes it more easy to find your profile, if you are new, you will likely need to get a new one. There are many places you can register one, here are a few options:
Free: NostrCheck.me, Zaps.lol,
Paid: NostrPlebs.com, Snort.social, Zap.stream.
Next is a lightning address, like a Nip05, there are many places to get one. A lightning address is a payment address, this allows you to receive Bitcoin tips from other users, some places to try include: Primal Wallet, Wallet of Satoshi, Getalby.com, Coinos.io.
The other fields aren't very Important for most people, so once you have all of these fields filled out, go ahead and hit save.
You did it! You set up your profile!
Next, find people to follow! Some ways of doing this include: Composing your first note (post) and tell the community about yourself, when people reply, follow people you like. Make sure and use #introductions in your first post.
Another way if to follow the following or followers of people you like, you can view this by clicking the person's profile, then tapping on followers or following.
Final step, Start chating and have fun! There are many people who would be happy to help you if you need it!
