Diversification of Small Island Developing States

I talk with many governments of Small Island Developing States. They all want to diversify their economies away from tourism.

Basically they all have stayover tourists staying like 10 days on their islands. And they have cruise tourists, visiting their islands for 1 day.

The stayover tourists spend more, they use more tourism services. The cruise tourists are more in number but they spend less.

Enter Yachting, 3 D Printing

All these islands have water, that's why we call them islands. Some of them have pristine beaches.

Yesterday I was thinking about how these small islands could diversify into yachting.

Take a look at this
https://m.primal.net/MtIp.bin

Imagine luxury small 3 meter boats. Imagine all these boats being built by fishers and in woodwork workshops. Imagine the people installing the electric engines on these boats. Imagine making these boats luxurious.

Imagine selling these boats to people living on these islands who own a villa. That is diversification.

It gets even better
Now how could we step this a notch? I searched 3 D Printed boats on Youtube and I found a lady on a conference in Germany promoting her 3 D printed boats.

And that's when it went all magic.

This lady is using plastic to print the 3 D boats. She has a big building, might be an old school, where she has a 3 D printer of say 15 meters length. And she is printing these boats.

This can be done on islands. So my next natural step is to contact this lady and see if she wants to expand her business in the Caribbean, on islands.

I do some more research and I see that this is a family business. They produce 100 boats per year and a boat is basically between 25.000 Euros and 60.000 Euros.

This is a lot of value added for a family owned business.

Going Upstream in the Value Chain
Then I research further. I see another Youtube video where somebody, like a show in the Netherlands, interviews this lady. And they talk about the value chain.

Where does she get the plastic, the raw material?
Enter this other company that collects the plastic, sorts it out and chops it in small pieces.

Diversification upstreams
What about inviting this company who collects this plastic also to the Caribbean, to our small islands?

Because see above: we got plenty of plastic on our islands! Our whole business case of tourism (stayover and cruise tourism) is producing plastic.

Take for instance a typical island like Curacao. Lets say they have 500.000 stayover tourists each year and say 700.000 cruise tourists.

Those 500.000 stayover tourists stay 10 days. So we got 5 million days. Those cruise tourists stay 1 day. So we got 700.000 days.

That is 5,7 million days a year.

Now say each tourist drinks one bottle of water per day. Of course later we can fine tune this. That's 5,7 plastic bottles a day.

Is that a boat? How many boats do we have there?

So now we got diversification into two sectors: we got Tourism, and we got Manufacturing (Luxurious Small Boat Production and Plastic Collection and Chopping).

Impact on the Islands
What happens now? In the case of small islands, those 5,7 million plastic bottles will end up in the sea or in the landfills. Yes, we make a hole and our Garbage collection Public enterprises, just fill the holes with bags full of plastic.

You can calculate how soon the whole land will be full. And you cannot use the landfill for agriculture, nor anything else.

So the land can now be used by the Agriculture sector.

Effect on Agriculture sector
You are not only freeing land for agriculture. You are actually creating produce that can be used by your tourism sector.

How can Bitcoin help this business case?
I was happy with this diversification case. I'm for sure going to discuss this with the policy departments of governments of small island developing states that I coach.

I'm also going to run some scenarios with my macro economic simulation and investment models that I have for the Eastern Caribbean region, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Curacao and Sint Maarten and Suriname.

Because all these islands have the same problem. They got cruise and stayover, they got plastic, they got a place where they dump the plastic garbage. They got a significant amount of tourists and they all want to grow their tourism. And they all want to diversify.

And now Bitcoin
The problem we have here is that the plastic has no value. The supermarkets just sell the bottles of water, and coke and soap and everything liquid that enters their borders, and then after disposal, the bottles end up in a garbage bag.

So what incentives can we create so the bottles are delivered at the plastic sorting and chopping manufacturing business above?

We could give each bottle a price in sats. Say 100 sats per bottle.

Youth and People living on Social Benefits
The moment you give the bottles a price in sats I think something will happen.

Everybody what has a mobile phone, can download a wallet like Wallet of Satoshi, Blink Wallet, Aqua Wallet and get paid.

Banks will not be interested in this business case, because in the case of an island like Curacao, just to make one transaction through your bank account you pay 1 dollar. Excluding taxes.

So banks cannot possibly make money by supporting this business case.

Banks will not give everybody, youth of say 13 years old a bank account to be paid.

But WE can. We are Bitcoiners.

What could happen is that people, who are now idle and not productive, like the people receiving USD 250 in social benefits (total of 6000-8000) on Curacao, on a total population of 160.000 can now collect garbage (plastic).

They will be paid in sats.

The moment they realize that a sat is money and that it is appreciating in value, and they can buy food with it at Supermarkets like Esperamos Supermarket on Curacao, they will be incentivized to clean the plastic up.

We basically have 5,7 million * 100 sats, Is 570 million sats to spend. Lol.

Do you see it? We got 5,7 Bitcoin to spend. At the time of writing this is almost 570.000 USD to spend (assuming one Bitcoin is 100.000 USD).

In the future, when the Bitcoin price increases, no lets rephrase, in the future when the USD becomes less worth against Bitcoin, (because like Walker (THE Bitcoin Podcast) says - One Bitcoin is one Bitcoin - this economy will grow.

570.000 USD for the people who collects the plastic and delivers it at the company who will Collect it and Chop it.

Going back to the luxurious boats

They cost of material to produce a luxurious boat is 570.000 USD per year. How many boats can they produce with that?

Just imagine they produce 100 boats with that. Their revenue is 100 * say 50.000 USD per boat is, 5 million USD. So they can spend that money on plastic and they still will have earnings.

They get close to 89% of value added to spend on salaries, rent, depreciation of those 3 D machines.

I took 0.57 (costs in millions) and divided it by 5 million (is revenues) and got 0.11. That is roughly the costs of material (plastic) as percentage of the revenues.

I took 1 minus 0.11 and got to 0.89. That is the gross net earnings for the 3 D luxury boat company.

From this they need to pay their salaries, depreciation etc.

Branding Island Wealth Boats
Now my brand is Island Wealth. I want Islands to be wealthy.

So lets play with it a bit and call these boats Island Wealthy Boats: the ultimate luxurious edition of boats

Here is the invitation to you....

Would you love to have a beautiful ride on the waves of the Spanish Waters on Curacao....?

Imagine with your spouse on the calm waters before sunset....

A glass of champaign...

You are looking at the beautiful villas of the Spanish Waters in the Caribbean.. Alle beachfront villas.

Your captain... Runy Calmera... host of the Island Wealth Show on Nostr is with you....

But you don't hear the engine....

This is an electric engine...

Your boat...a sustainable... 3 meter luxurious Island Wealth Boat - Delux..

Host Island Wealth

Let me know your comments below. I wonder what you think.

I wonder how you would include Artificial Intelligence into this business case (I'm thinking the AI can recognize the bottles) can help sort the bottles on colour etc, after they are delivered)

Is this also feasible for your island?

Would you order an Island Wealth Boat?

What are next steps to make this happen?

Anything else.... Let me know.

And share this so we improve the world with Bitcoin
