A more detailed version of fascism is that it had these 4 features
1. Anti-conservative: It is all about destroying long held customs and institutions
2. Anti-liberal: Destruction of the bill of rights, and representative democracy
3. Anti-communist: a cult to the point that anything I don't like is communist
4. A blind belief in a mythical great past that never actually existed.
#4 is the reason why Pinochet isn't considered a fascist. A complete monster yes, but Chile never had a former "great" past so he never used that to claim power, just the US backed help to coup the democratically elected Allende.
