One of the main reasons I prefer to own my own non-DRM-protected books, movies, and music is I can control my experience when enjoying them. I can convert an epub into a perfectly formatted PDF for my Remarkable. I can listen to albums in Symfonium with it's high quality EQ (and without annoying recommendations). I can watch movies with a custom audio mix that makes dialog audible. None of this is possible in walled garden apps, which aim to please casual consumers and not power users.
